Tuesday, May 22, 2018, 12:15 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. ET.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people face health disparities that are connected to stigma, discrimination, and denial of civil and human rights. This training will explore the mental and physical effects of these phenomenon on the LGBTQ community, such as higher rates of psychiatric disorders, substance abuse, suicide, cancer, homelessness, and violence and will provide tools to help you address these issues. This training concludes with information on how to use cultural competency, cultural humility, and structural competency as tools to help communities attain positive health outcomes.

This webinar is part of a series of quarterly patient engagement webinars hosted by the Ohio Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative (OPCPCC) Center for Provider and Patient Engagement in partnership with Health Services Advisory Group (HSAG).  The webinar will begin with a half-hour presentation at 12:15 p.m. ET and will conclude with a 15-minute Q&A session. Download the event slides (PDF).

Objectives: At the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Define the concept of health equity
  • Describe health disparities experienced by LGBTQ community
  • Explain how applying the principles of cultural humility can narrow health disparities

Participation is limited to the first 150 who register. Questions may be directed to PCMH@odh.ohio.gov or 614.644.9756.
